Re-creating Erica
How do you know what Erica was like?

“Erica 843 herself was not a very large cow, but was almost bigger than what is called a big
little one. She stood on very short legs, and had a lovely, feminine head, and splendid quality.”

Greg Rhodes believes that , by comparing the historical descriptions and images of Erica and
other Aberdeen and Angus animals, together with close observation of Erica's living
descendants and their performance, he is refining the identification of the "Erica Angus" traits.
How does this help your Project?

By matching phenotype descriptions (against genetic make-up and proven performance) we
are breeding back to Erica, and the original Angus developed by Hugh Watson.

How long will it take to complete Midnight's complete pedigree?

We hope to complete our research and be able to publish Midnight's pedigree by his 13th
birthday in July 2008.

Remember, the pedigree is only a guide.  The pedigree-mapping exercise is a side activity in
the LBE Project.  Our primary goal is to test the genetics we have available now in a controlled
systematic way to identify and document their true potential.
How many times does Erica appear in Midnight's pedigree?

Currently Erica 843 appears at least 202,106,034 times in Midnight's pedigree.  We will
update this figure as the mapping of
Midnight's ancestry continues.
How many of Midnight's ancestors have you identified?

We currently have over 7000 unique animals identified.
How can I help?

If you have access to (Aberdeen) Angus Herd Books - be they American, Canadian, New
Zealand or Scottish, you can help in the search.  On completion, we will make the information
publicly available and fully acknowledge the assistance given.

If you would like to help, please
email me and I will let you know some of the gaps we
currently have.
