What is "Re-creating Erica" all about?
Erica 843 was the original "Angus" type cow, a matriarch of today's Angus beef breed.
Erica's genetics (and exceptional traits) are spread far and wide throughout the world.
All Aberdeen and Angus cattle are related to Erica to some way. Typical generational
links back to Erica span from 19 to 56 generations - depending upon the route the
genetics took over the ensuring 150 years. As a consequence, the Erica Angus-type traits
are concentrated in some animals more so than in others.
In the last century and a half, there has been a continual mixing and re-mixing of the Erica-
Angus type genetics with those of the Aberdeen, their phenotypical opposite. This has
resulted in a wide range of animal 'types', depending on the various genetics involved.
The Linebred Erica™ Project is breeding back to the original Erica through a strong and
unique strain of Erica Angus-type genetics that have survived into the 21st century.
